eLTP is a service coordinated through NABP that allows a pharmacist’s core licensure record — including exam scores, original licensure date, and standing history — to be transmitted electronically from their home state board to a state board where they are seeking a new license. Rather than requesting paper verification letters from each individual board, a pharmacist initiates a transfer request through their NABP profile, and participating boards exchange the verified information directly.
This process is distinct from license reciprocity itself. eLTP is the mechanism for moving verified credentials between boards; whether that transferred record actually results in a license depends on the receiving state’s own requirements, such as additional jurisprudence exams, background checks, or continuing education verification.
Why it matters
For pharmacists applying to multiple states, eLTP is usually a required step somewhere in the application workflow, and it typically involves a separate fee and processing time per state requested.
